April is Volunteer Appreciation Month! Have you thought about how to get involved in Hillsborough?
Consider offering your time by serving on an appointed board. It’s a fun and engaging way to be a part of your local community! Several Town of Hillsborough boards have vacancies, with members serving up to three-year terms. Applying can take under 15 minutes, and you can do it easily online.
Applications for all boards are being accepted. No vacancies on your preferred board? Apply anyway! You’ll be contacted when a seat becomes available. Learn about our current vacancies below.
Board of Adjustment
The Board of Adjustment has vacancies for residents who live in the town’s extraterritorial jurisdiction, an area where the town controls zoning outside its limits. See the Services for Your Property page on the town website to determine if you live in the extraterritorial jurisdiction.
The board hears:
Applications for special use permits and variances for commercial and residential development projects.
Appeals from decisions and determinations of planning and economic development staff.
The board meets at 6 p.m. the second Wednesday of the month as needed. Visit the Board of Adjustment page.
Historic District Commission
The Historic District Commission has two vacancies. Applicants must live in Hillsborough’s town limits or extraterritorial jurisdiction. If you are interested in history or architecture or if you enjoy historic downtowns, this opportunity is for you!
The commission:
Reviews applications for exterior changes to residential and commercial buildings within the Hillsborough Historic District and downtown area.
Enforces and updates the Historic District Standards, which regulate the district.
