Hillsborough police officers are collecting new school supplies to help local students in need prepare for the new school year.

“Sometimes something as simple as a new book bag or unused markers can give a child the excitement and confidence that is really needed on the first day of school,” said Sgt. Scott Foster, who is organizing the drive.

You can donate several ways:

  • Aug. 3-14 — Drop off items at the Hillsborough Police Department, 127 N. Churton St., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The drop-off will end at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 14. Items also may be shipped to this address if online shopping is preferred.
  • Aug. 14— Hand donations to police officers from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the roundabout on Hampton Pointe Boulevard.

Officers are hoping to collect many book bags. All school supplies are welcome. See the school supply list for specific requests.
