Overnight Shooting Injures 1

Hillsborough police are seeking information about the incident

Hillsborough police vehicleHillsborough police are investigating an overnight shooting that injured one adult during a 4th of July celebration in northern Hillsborough.

Officers were dispatched just before 1 a.m. today, July 5, to the 500 block of Riddle Avenue following reports of a person with a gunshot wound.

Upon arrival, the officers encountered a gathering of about 25 people. Inside a home, they located a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound to a leg. The injury is believed to be non-life-threatening. The man was transported by emergency medical personnel to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill for treatment. His condition is unknown at this time.

Preliminary investigation indicates the shooting occurred shortly after a verbal altercation between the man and another individual. Investigators are working to identify all parties involved and to determine the sequence of events that led to the shooting.
