Second Arrest Made Following July 5 Shooting

Investigation is ongoing

Police have arrested Lewis White, 33, of Hillsborough in connection with a shooting incident that took place on July 5. A second person involved in the incident was arrested on July 11.   

On Monday morning, White turned himself in at the Orange County Magistrate’s Office. He was arrested and charged with the following:  

  • Possession of a firearm by a felon.
  • Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
  • Going armed to the terror of the people.  

White is being held at the Orange County Detention Center on a $50,000 secured bond.  

On July 11, investigators with the Hillsborough Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence in connection with the ongoing investigation into a shooting that occurred during a Fourth of July celebration that resulted in one injury.  

In addition to the search warrant, officers served arrest warrants on one of the residents for her role in the incident. Diana Jones, 60, of Hillsborough, was charged with:

  • Possession of a firearm by a felon.
  • Aiding and abetting possession of a firearm by a felon.

Jones was released on a written promise.  

Shooting Incident

Just before 1 a.m. July 5, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Riddle Avenue following reports of a person with a gunshot wound.

Upon arrival, the officers encountered a gathering of about 25 people. Inside a home, they located a man with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was transported to a hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. 

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Investigators advise that additional arrests may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
