The Town of Hillsborough’s drinking water remains safe to drink despite recent reports of changes in taste and smell.
The town’s water treatment plant staff have conducted additional testing at homes in the service area to confirm that Hillsborough’s treated water remains safe to drink.
Hot, slow-moving water and an increase in algae upstream of the town’s water intake are potential causes for the change in taste and smell.
Staff have increased the carbon in the filtration process at the Water Treatment Plant to improve the aesthetics of the finished water. Additionally, water distribution crews have started flushing water lines in impacted areas.
If you are a Hillsborough water customer and are experiencing a change in your water’s taste or smell, please contact the town through the Utilities Department contact form. In the form, list your reason for contact as water or wastewater quality issue. Water lines around your address will be added to the town’s list of lines to flush.
