Hillsborough police officers are collecting new school supplies to help local students in need prepare for the new school year.

“Sometimes something as simple as a new book bag or unused markers can give a child the excitement and confidence that is really needed on the first day of school,” said Sgt. Scott Foster, who is organizing the drive.

You can donate several ways:

  • Aug. 4-15 — Items may be dropped off at the Hillsborough Police Department, 127 N. Churton St., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The drop-off will end at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 15. Items also may be shipped to this address if online shopping is preferred.
  • Aug. 15 — From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., donations may be handed to police officers who will be collecting outside Walmart on Hampton Pointe Drive.

Officers are hoping to collect many book bags. All school supplies are welcome. See the attached school supply list for specific requests.
