The Hillsborough Board of Commissioners met Monday, Nov. 10, at the Town Hall Annex. Following is a brief summary of noteworthy actions. It does not include all actions taken at the meeting and should not be viewed as official minutes.
The board appointed Magnolia Brown to the Parks and Recreation Board for a term expiring on Nov. 11, 2028.
Proclamation
The board approved an Arbor Day proclamation, encouraging the community to plant trees to promote the well-being of current and future generations.
License Plate Readers
Seven community members addressed the board regarding Flock Safety automated license plate readers. The board canceled the town’s contract with Flock Safety on Oct. 27.
Special Events
The board approved two special events:
Holiday Tree Lighting — The event from 6 to 7 p.m. Dec. 6 will include a candlelight procession from the Visitors Center to the Orange County Historic Courthouse followed by a community sing-along.
Holiday Parade — The annual parade and fun run will be 4 to 6 p.m. Dec. 7 on Churton Street.
Information on traffic impacts from these events will be shared later this month.
Water Extension
The board decided not to extend water service to a proposed development on N.C. 86 North. The development is planned for outside the town’s limits, near Eno River Academy and Pathways Elementary School. Board members are expected to consider an ordinance that clarifies and adopts the town’s urban service boundary that was recommended in the town’s comprehensive sustainability plan on Nov. 24.
