Winter Wonderland toy giveaway
Police officers and firefighters distribute one new donated toy to every child from infant through early teens during the annual Santa event.

Toy or monetary donations are needed for a police- and fire-sponsored Santa event.

Hillsborough Police Department and Orange Rural Fire Department are collecting donations of new, unwrapped toys through Dec. 17 to distribute to children at a drive-thru event.

With help from Santa, police officers and firefighters will distribute toys from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Dorothy N. Johnson Community Center, 501 Rainey Ave. The community center will be transformed into a winter wonderland, with a light display to enjoy from Dec. 18 through Jan. 1.

Donations may be made in several ways:

  • Drop off toys ― 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the police station, 127 N. Churton St., or any day at the fire station, 206 S. Churton St. The police station will be closed to the public Nov. 27 and 28 for Thanksgiving.
