Town Board Meeting Summary

The Board of Commissioners typically meets the second and fourth Monday of the month in the Town Hall Annex, 105 E. Corbin St.

The Hillsborough Board of Commissioners met Monday, Jan. 12, at the Town Hall Annex. Following is a brief summary of noteworthy actions. It does not include all actions taken at the meeting and should not be viewed as official minutes.

Employee Milestones

The board received a presentation recognizing 14 town employees for their tenure with the town, including 5 employees with at least 15 years of service. Accounting Specialist Carolyn Glasgow was recognized for 40 years of service. Employees received a certificate, Town of Hillsborough coin signifying their years of service, and a $100 bonus to celebrate their milestone.

Appointments

The board appointed:

  • Kimberly Landaverde to the Planning Board for a term expiring on Jan. 31, 2029.
  • Spencer Welborn to the Tourism Board for a term expiring on Jan. 12, 2028.

Special Events

The board approved two special events on the town’s Riverwalk greenway:

  • Occoneechee Mountain Challenge — Hillsborough Running Club’s Occoneechee Mountain Challenge will be 9 to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 25.
  • Kevin Dendy Memorial 5K — Generation Life Church will hold its annual fundraising run from 8:30 to 11 a.m. April 11.

Code Enforcement

The board reviewed properties that the town may need to clear to bring those properties into compliance. Planning and Economic Development Manager Shannan Campbell presented properties that require demolition or junk removal to meet the health and safety standards in the town’s ordinances, including properties on Torain, West King, Hill and Cornelius streets. Rezoning

The board approved a rezoning request for three parcels in Oakdale Village, updating the zoning from Entranceway Special Use to General Commercial. While General Commercial and Entryway Special Use allow similar property uses, general commercial districts do not require a special use permit for development.
