Hillsborough’s mayor has issued a proclamation in honor of Black History Month 2026.
“Hillsborough is proud to celebrate Black History Month to promote awareness and dialogue about Black history and culture in Hillsborough, Orange County and our country,” Mayor Mark Bell said. “It also helps honor the legacy of the contributions of Black Americans and empower future generations.”
Each year, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History determines the theme for Black History Month, which is then endorsed by the American president. More information about the theme and the association’s history can be found on the association’s website.
“A Century of Black History Commemorations is this year’s theme for Black History Month,” Bell said. “Hillsborough is proud to recognize 100 years of intentional study, remembrance and recognition of the contributions of people of African descent and their impact on America and the world.”
