Get to know Hillsborough town staff, local volunteers and other residents while participating in Creek Week activities in March.
Several activities are offered in Hillsborough and nearby:
4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19 — Help expand the rain garden at the Dorothy N. Johnson Community Center, 501 Rainey Ave.
9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 21 — Plant native grass in a rain garden extension at the Dorothy N. Johnson Community Center, 501 Rainey Ave.
Noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 21 — Engage in hands-on exploration and activities at the Confluence Nature Area, 4214 Highland Farm Road. Activities will include catching macroinvertebrates at the river, self-guided hikes and other hands-on learning activities about local creeks and waterways.
2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 22 — Join the Hillsborough Invasive Species Removal Team in removing invasive plants along Stillhouse Creek. Bring gloves, a water bottle and gardening tools, such as loppers, hand pruners or a saw. Meet at the Visitors Center, 150 E. King St. Register for the workday.
2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 24 — Remove trash along the Riverwalk greenway with Town of Hillsborough staff. Meet at the greenway entrance closest to Weaver Street Market, 228 S. Churton St.
9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28 — Pick up trash along Bellevue Branch, 154 Hayes St. Wear closed-toe shoes. Participants must be at least 16 years old.
1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 28 — Join the Hillsborough Stormwater and Environmental Services Division in planting additional plants in a bioswale along Riverwalk. Parking is available in the Eno River Brewing parking lot, 329 Eno Mountain Road.
3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 — Visit the Creek Week celebration hosted by Eno River Brewing, 329 Eno Mountain Road. Several organizations will host tables with a focus on protecting waterways.
