The Planning and Economic Development Division is responsible for enforcing land development ordinances enacted by the Board of Commissioners.

Address Assignment

Addresses are assigned, verified and corrected by the Planning and Economic Development Division.

Orange County's address database contains records maintained by the town. Additional information is available from the county Geographic Information Systems Division.

Addresses should be:

• Clearly visible from the street day and night.
• Displayed with numerals at least 3 inches high on a contrasting background.

Planning fees are due when permits or applications are submitted. The town's planning fees cover the cost of reviewing materials.

North Carolina Marvin Collins Award: Honorable Mention ― For outstanding planning on the Comprehensive Sustainability Plan from the North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association in 2023.

Engineering Excellence ― For planning and mapping on the Comprehensive Sustainability Plan from the American Council of Engineering Companies in 2023.

People's Choice Award ― For the Comprehensive Sustainability Plan from the American Council of Engineering Companies in 2023.
