Hillsborough's treatment plants regularly test for contaminants and prepare annual reports about their treatment processes and testing.

An annual report is published in July for the previous year. It includes information on our water treatment system and performance as well as water quality information from the Environmental Protection Agency.

Wastewater Quality Report

A report is published in August each year for the previous fiscal year (July 1-June 30). It includes information on our wastewater collection and treatment systems and their performance.

The Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Division:

• Repairs water line leaks.
• Cleans and repairs sewer lines.
• Maintains water tanks, booster pump stations and sewage lift stations.

Staff members are responsible for programs and projects to maintain and protect the utility system.

The town’s treatment plants prepare drinking water and clean used water. They regularly test for contaminants.

Water Treatment Plant

The water plant takes water from the Eno River, cleans and disinfects it, and then pumps it to customers. The state requires that the plant change its disinfection method for one month each year to clean the distribution system.

Wastewater Treatment Plant

The wastewater plant removes waste and nutrients from used water, disinfects the water with chlorine, and then removes the chlorine before releasing the water into the Eno River.
