Hillsborough's treated wastewater is released into the Eno River. Before the water is safe to return to the river, it must go through multiple stages of treatment at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The Eno River is within the Upper Neuse River Basin, an ecologically sensitive area. Due to this, the state imposes strict requirements on treated wastewater.

Staff who maintain the pipes and pumps connected with removing your used water must be available at all hours for emergencies.
