Location

The Highway 86 North Facility is located at 890 N.C. 86 N. in Hillsborough.

The building currently serves as office, storage and work space for Fleet Maintenance Operations and the Safety and Risk Management Office.

The renovation and expansion will allow the Public Works Division to move its operations out of a floodplain. The division currently operates out of an undersized building and mobile offices in a gravel lot at 719 Dimmocks Mill Road behind the Adron F. Thompson Water/Sewer Facility.

Funding

The estimated cost of the improvements is nearly $3.7 million. The town expects to pay for about $1 million of the project in cash and to finance the rest.

Current Phase

A contract was awarded to H.M. Kern Corporation for the renovation of the existing building and construction of new buildings at the N.C. 86 North Facility. Construction is currently underway.
