Renovating the historic portion of the former fabric mill building into apartments using a number of tax credit programs has been approved. The owners have listed the property on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Board of Commissioners approved a special use permit amendment on June 8, 2009.
On Sept. 9, 2013, the board voted to extend the validity of the approval and its vested rights until Dec. 31, 2015. On Dec. 14, 2015, the board again extended the vested rights period until Dec. 31, 2016.
Construction was underway before the permit expiration, so the project was allowed to continue. As of July 2019, a handful of units are occupied and construction is continuing until all units are approved for occupancy. Given the significant investment in the site, renewal of the special use permit is no longer required so long as the applicant is working toward completion.
