Other Guiding Documents
Below are documents that have been prepared or endorsed by the town to inform budgeting, development and decision making.
In 2008, the town acquired 20 acres adjacent to the North Carolina Railroad corridor to identity a location to re-establish passenger rail service and provide for economic development. Two small area planning processes informed the funding request for a train station to the N.C. Department of Transportation. These documents are available from staff by request.
The town participated in a national design assistance academy to think creatively about the central portion of town. The report to the town board from that experience is available below. A conceptual site plan for a portion of the 20-acre site was prepared in 2015 to inform the environmental screening and preliminary planning for the future station. That plan is available below.
A request for proposals for design of the future station is expected to be released in late 2021. As a schedule becomes certain, either a new page will be established or more information will be available here.
The Downtown Parking Study aimed to measure the parking situation, project the effects of future development on parking availability and accessibility and develop recommendations to improve downtown parking to meet the needs of downtown business owners, customers and visitors.
