Public Works

The Public Works Division is dedicated to providing a safe, clean and healthy environment in town. Staff are committed to maintaining a high quality of life for Hillsborough residents.
The town handles curbside collections of garbage and yard waste. See the Garbage Collection and Yard Waste Collection pages on this website for more information.
Other solid waste services are provided by Orange County. See the Garbage Collection page on this website for more information.
The town maintains most streets within its jurisdiction, while others are maintained by the state. For more information, see the Street Maintenance page on this website.
The Public Works Division oversees cemetery operations and burials at the Town Cemetery. See the Town Cemetery Regulations page for additional information. The Public Space and Sustainability Division oversees the maintenance of town-maintained cemeteries. See the Cemeteries page.
The town generally does not construct new roads. However, it manages changes within the public right of way and has requirements for new road construction. Most of these functions are handled by the town's Planning and Economic Development Division, and additional information is available in the street standards section of the division's page on this website.
