Reminder: Register with OC Alerts to Manage Emergency Notifications
Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017
The Town of Hillsborough is reminding citizens to register for Orange County’s emergency notification system, OC Alerts, in order to manage their notifications.
The town’s Hillsborough Alerts system was merged with OC Alerts, a partnership between Orange County, Orange Water and Sewer Authority and the towns of Carrboro and Chapel Hill, on Aug. 1.
By registering with OC Alerts, citizens can choose which types of events they wish to be notified about and how and where they will be notified. Optional means of communication include phone calls, text messages and emails. Citizens can register via the OC Alerts web portal, which can be found at www.OCAlertsNC.com.
Contact information from Hillsborough Alerts was transferred to OC Alerts, but citizens who had registered with Hillsborough Alerts will need to register with OC Alerts in order to make changes. In order to continue receiving weather alerts, users will need to select them in the OC Alerts web portal, even if they had previously selected them through Hillsborough Alerts.
Information provided to OC Alerts will not be shared with third parties.
Citizens should be mindful that Orange Water and Sewer Authority provides water service to the Chapel Hill and Carrboro community. When selecting notification preferences through the OC Alerts system, Hillsborough water customers should sign up to receive notifications from the Town of Hillsborough. To find out whether your address receives water and sewer service from the Town of Hillsborough, visit the Jurisdiction and Service Areas page on the town’s website.
Alerts will be identified as being from OC Alerts. The caller ID for alerts sent by the county to hard line phones will be 919-245-6100. The caller ID for alerts sent by the Town of Hillsborough through OC Alerts to hard line phones will remain 919-241-4802. The caller ID for alerts sent through text messaging on cell phones will remain 89361 or 87844 whether from the county or from the town.
