Downtown Parking Lot Islands to Be Planted
Wednesday, April 19, 2017
Islands in the town-leased parking lot off West King Street are expected to be prepared and planted this week.
Depending on weather, soil will be replaced Thursday, April 20, in the downtown parking lot islands, with pollinator-friendly plants added this week. Travel lanes and parking spaces will remain open, although several spaces may be used for staging and material delivery. Motorists are asked to use caution around the work zone.
The work — as well as the installment and planting of four large planters on the north side of West King Street in coming weeks — is being funded through a state downtown revitalization grant awarded to the town last fall.
“Both projects help accomplish the town’s initiative to expand Hillsborough’s pollinator habitat as a Bee City,” Hillsborough Public Space Manager Stephanie Trueblood said.
Hillsborough was named the 35th Bee City USA last year. For more information on the designation, see the news release.
