Hillsborough Police Enhance Recruiting Efforts
Thursday, July 13, 2017
The Hillsborough Police Department is taking steps to attract a larger, more diverse pool of applicants.
Starting salary for an officer who has completed Basic Law Enforcement Training recently increased to $43,227. In addition, the department is offering higher starting salaries based on formal education, Spanish language proficiency and sworn experience.
The department is accepting applications from officers who have experience with other agencies, candidates who have just completed Basic Law Enforcement Training and those who have not yet had the training but are interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.
“Hillsborough is a unique town and a great place to work,” said Chief Duane Hampton. “This is a very positive environment where we value our employees and they have an opportunity to really see the impact they have on the lives of the people we serve.”
Along with the increase in starting salary, the department is implementing an individually assigned vehicle program that will allow officers who live within 20 miles of town to take their vehicles home. Other benefits include a career advancement system, parental leave, tuition assistance and training opportunities.
