Paving Underway in West Hillsborough
Friday, Nov. 9, 2018
Workers have begun repaving streets affected by the West Hillsborough Sidewalk Connections Project.
Repaving of Calvin, South Nash and Eno streets is expected to be complete today or Saturday, depending on weather.
Temporary signage will be used to direct motorists and pedestrians until pavement marking can be scheduled.
This week, workers completed paving of the extension of the Riverwalk greenway to Eno Mountain Road. Next week, curbs and gutters will be installed along Eno Mountain Road, and a handicapped-access ramp will be installed at Allison Street.
A sidewalk along Eno Mountain Road will be the next phase of the project.
Flagging crews will be used for lane shifts and closures as needed to provide a safe work zone. Citizens are advised to use caution and observe all safety signage in the project area.
Businesses in the area remain open and accessible during construction. Customers are asked to park in the parking lot on the east side of South Nash Street, as there is no longer on-street parking along South Nash Street due to widened sidewalks.
About the project
The project will increase pedestrian safety and visibility and improve connectivity. The improvements will increase accessibility and be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The town estimates that the project will be completed in December.
The cost of the project is expected to be $1.2 million, with the bulk of funding coming from the federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality program. About $250,000 will come from the town.
