Prepare for Winter Weather
Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018
It’s Winter Weather Preparedness Week in North Carolina; and with a wintry mix forecasted this weekend, the Town of Hillsborough is reminding the community to stay safe.
The town has created the documents below that share how the town prepares for winter weather, how the community can prepare too and how the town operates during winter events.
In addition, the town has created a video about its winter weather operations, available on the town’s website and YouTube Channel. See the Streets webpage for more information on winter weather operations, specifically sections on snow removal and state-maintained streets.
Should weather conditions deteriorate, the community is advised to stay off roads and town trails. Doing otherwise puts yourself and others at risk and pulls emergency workers away from other duties. If wintry weather occurs, roads may continue to have snow and ice after the event, particularly in shaded areas. To allow plowing, please do not park vehicles on streets.
Also, as part of your preparations, make sure you know who provides services to your home. About 25,000 homes have a Hillsborough mailing address, but only 7,000 are within the town limits. To determine who provides your services, check the Jurisdiction and Service Areas page of the town website.
The new town documents and other cold weather resources are available on the Emergency Information page of the town’s website.
