Reopening of Riverwalk Section Delayed Again
Friday, Feb. 2, 2018
Reopening of a section of Riverwalk closed for utilities work will be delayed longer than previously expected.
The town had previously estimated the project would be completed early this month. However, work has been slowed by soil at the site being wetter than expected following recent snow and rain. Additionally, asphalt needed to repair pavement at the site is temporarily unavailable while area plants undergo winter maintenance. The contractor performing the work now estimates the section of greenway will reopen in about two to three weeks. The town will notify citizens when the section has reopened.
The affected section of the greenway, located near the South Cameron Street access trail, closed Jan. 2 for replacement of a crumbling 20-inch concrete sewer line. The town has designated a detour around the work area, exiting the greenway near trail marker 114, proceeding east over Burnside Drive to a utility easement, then southwest to reconnect with the greenway near trail marker 116. There are about 15 signs posted along the detour route to guide the way.
Citizens are reminded to observe all safety signs and not to enter the fenced work area.
