Help Rebuild the Occaneechi Replica Village
Volunteers are building a new replica of the Occaneechi Village in River Park. On Aug. 18, help is needed to build huts.

Calling volunteers interested in rebuilding the Occaneechi replica village. The Alliance for Historic Hillsborough is partnering with the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation and Orange County to build a new Occaneechi village replica in River Park.

From 8 a.m. to noon on Aug. 18, volunteers are needed to build huts. The work will involve cutting poles and moving dirt. Volunteers are asked to bring gloves, water and shovels. Early risers are welcome to help set up at 7:30 a.m.

The rain date is Saturday, Aug. 25. River Park is located at 140 E. Margaret Lane behind the Farmers Market Pavilion.

At past workdays, volunteers have installed cedar poles with pointed burnt tips at the outer perimeter of the replica village, which is located near the site of a village that sat along the banks of the Eno River in the second half of the 17th century.
