Volunteers Needed for Town Tourism Boards
Would you like to help attract visitors to Hillsborough? Two Hillsborough advisory boards need volunteers to join them in working to promote tourism.
The Tourism Board has two vacancies. One is for someone who owns or works for a restaurant, pub, or other business that collects and remits the prepared food and beverage tax. The other is an at-large seat available to anyone who resides within the town, owns property within the town, or has a principal place of employment in town.
The Tourism Board drives economic development by promoting travel, tourism and visitor services. It sponsors programs and activities designed to improve Hillsborough's attractiveness to visitors. To accomplish this, the board reinvests the town's prepared food and beverage tax in funding for grants, special projects and partnerships, and contract services.
Tourism Development Authority
The Tourism Development Authority has an opening for someone who operates, owns or works for a place that offers overnight accommodations in town and collects the occupancy tax required by the Town of Hillsborough. Owners of Airbnb and VRBO accommodations qualify to fill this seat.
The Tourism Development Authority promotes travel, tourism and conventions; sponsors tourism-related events; and finances tourism-related capital projects. The authority is responsible for administering the proceeds of a 3% room occupancy tax. At least two-thirds of the tax’s proceeds must fund promotion of travel and tourism, with the rest available for other tourism-related expenditures.
Meetings are held quarterly on a mutually agreeable date. Terms are for two years. Visit the authority’s page on the town website.
