Tourism Board Awards Grants
The Hillsborough Tourism Board awarded nearly $20,000 in grants Monday to support three events that bring visitors to Hillsborough.
The grant awards include:
- $5,000 to the Orange Community Players for a Mary Poppins production in July.
- $10,000 to the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough for an Outlander Festival in October.
- $4,900 to the Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce for the 33rd Annual Hillsborough Holiday Home Tour in December.
The Tourism Board is an advisory board for the Town of Hillsborough and decides how to reinvest the town’s prepared food and beverage tax to drive economic development by promoting travel, tourism and visitor services.
The board opens a grant application period each spring to give nonprofit organizations an opportunity to apply for funding for programs, events, and projects with a tourism focus. Additionally, the Tourism Board contracts with the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough, Burwell School Historic Site, Hillsborough Arts Council and Orange County Historical Museum to provide tourist and visitor services for the town.
Final decisions about the budget for contract services are scheduled to be made at a public hearing at 6:15 p.m. June 3 in the Town Hall Annex, 105 E. Corbin St.
