Community Meetings Seek Citizen Input on Distribution of Housing Funds

Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020

The Orange County Local Government Affordable Housing Collaborative will hold community meetings seeking input from citizens and organizations on the distribution of federal housing funds.

Input from the meetings will help shape the collaborative’s Annual Action Plan, Assessment of Fair Housing and Five-Year Consolidated Plan.

The funds to be distributed come from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which requires the consolidated plan. The consolidated plan will guide federal grant spending within the jurisdiction to address housing and community development needs for low- and moderate-income residents for the next five years.

The collaborative is also seeking input for its Assessment of Fair Housing, which assesses issues such as segregation; conditions that restrict fair housing choice; and disparities in access to housing and opportunity. It also establishes fair housing priorities and goals that are included in the consolidated plan.

An in-person meeting will be held 2-3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23 at the Hillsborough Police Substation, 501 Rainey Ave. Two virtual meetings also will be held, including:

Recordings of the virtual meetings will be available online.

Meeting attendees will be asked to complete a questionnaire, which also is available online. The questionnaire is available in both English and Spanish.

Those unable to attend the community meetings may submit written comments through Wednesday, March 4 to Erika Brandt via email at ebrandt@orangecountync.gov, fax at 919-644-3056, or postal mail to Orange County Department of Housing & Community Development, P.O. Box 8181, Hillsborough, NC 27278.
