Help for Businesses and Local Unemployed Service Workers

Tuesday, March 31, 2020

The Town of Hillsborough asks residents to support local businesses and urges local business owners to seek help if they are experiencing financial difficulties.

The Town of Hillsborough and the Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce are working with Orange County, the towns of Carrboro and Chapel Hill, and the Chamber for a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro to help mitigate the financial hardship small businesses are experiencing due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The group is providing businesses with guidance and funding options with answers to commonly asked questions.

Businesses are encouraged to check the following resources for businesses:

Tip Jar Campaigns

The Wooden Nickel Public House’s Dean James and Matt Fox together with the Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce are working to promote two campaigns to help those in the hospitality and service industries who have recently lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 outbreak. People who recently lost their jobs at Hillsborough-based businesses can add their information to the list of those who need financial assistance using this form maintained by James and Fox.

The Wooden Nickel is hosting #HillsboroughStrong, a virtual tip campaign that allows people to tip unemployed service workers directly through each service worker’s Venmo account!

The chamber is hosting a #3H Hillsborough Hospitality Help GoFundMe campaign that allows businesses and individuals to donate to a general fund. Money in this fund will be distributed to recently unemployed local workers on the #HillsboroughStrong list or who are referred to the chamber by a local employer. Those who prefer to donate by check can make it payable to the Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce, indicate #3H in the memo line, and mail it to the chamber at 200 N. Churton St., Hillsborough, NC 27278.
