Most Town Park Facilities to Reopen Thursday, May 28

Tuesday, May 26, 2020

Gold, Cates Creek and Kings Highway parks, with the exception of playgrounds, will reopen Thursday, May 28 following the state’s Phase 2 easing of COVID-19 restrictions.

Park gates and restrooms at the parks, along with the dog park at Gold Park, will be opened during regular hours with restrooms being cleaned and sanitized daily. Other town-maintained parks and greenways will continue to be open and available for use.

Members of the community are encouraged to get outside for walks, runs, bike rides and other recreation, but outdoor gatherings must be limited to 25 or fewer people under the most recent state order, and people should keep a 6-foot distance from others not living in the same household. See the video for more information. Community members should wear a face covering in situations where social distancing is difficult. See the news release for more information.

Limitations of reopening

Playground equipment at town parks remains closed for use under the state’s Phase 2 reopening order because it is not sanitized, and its use brings people into distances that are too close. Please heed closure signs and barricades for play equipment. See the reopening news release for more information.

Picnic shelters and fields are available for use with social distancing but cannot be reserved or rented until further notice. Community members are encouraged to disinfect picnic tables and benches before use. Organized games that bring people close together should not occur.

Orange County parks

Most park facilities maintained by Orange County also will be reopened Thursday.
