Durham Man Charged with Stealing Truck, Gun in Hillsborough
The vehicle was stolen from the contractor loading area at The Home Depot
William Thomas Blake, 39, of Durham has been arrested and charged with stealing a truck and a gun in Hillsborough.
Shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck with a gun stowed in it was stolen from the contractor loading area at The Home Depot, 625 Hampton Pointe Blvd., while the owner was inside the store paying for items.
Hillsborough Police reviewed store security footage of the theft and created a description of a suspect matching Blake. They also saw footage of the suspect exiting a black SUV that was checked and found to have been reported stolen in Cary on Nov. 21.
On Thursday evening Durham Police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a possible overdose on Driver Street in Durham and found Blake unconscious behind the wheel of the stolen Silverado. He was taken to a Durham hospital by EMS for treatment.
An investigation into the stolen gun, which was not recovered, is ongoing. It has been entered in the National Crime Information Center database.
Hillsborough Police have charged Blake with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Durham Police also have charged Blake with possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
