Police Locate Suspect in Hit-and-Run Collision
Hillsborough police have charged a local man in connection with a hit-and-run collision that occurred Tuesday in town.
Dean Charles Turner, 43, of 810 Oakdale Drive was served a criminal summons today, July 30, for the following charges: misdemeanor reckless driving, misdemeanor running of a red light, and felony hit-and run for an accident in which the driver failed to stop and caused personal injury.
Police received several tips. A phone call today informed them of the vehicle’s location, and they then were able to locate the owner at his residence.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Old N.C. 86 and Oakdale Drive. The driver reportedly ran a red light while swerving from Old N.C. 86 onto Oakdale Drive and hit another vehicle head-on causing damage to the second vehicle and injuries to its driver.
Witnesses said the vehicle had been driven erratically through downtown Hillsborough prior to the collision, and officers were able to obtain surveillance video that showed the vehicle speeding past the ABC store toward Oakdale Drive prior to the collision.
