The Colonial Inn, located at 153 W. King St., won a 2021 Gertrude S. Carraway Award of Merit from Preservation North Carolina.

The recent restoration of The Colonial Inn has been recognized with a 2021 Gertrude S. Carraway Award of Merit from Preservation North Carolina.

The group has named Allied DevCorp as an award winner for its renovation of the inn, which dates to 1838 and is located at 153 W. King St. The award will formally be presented during an online ceremony as part of the group’s annual conference in October.

Working with Town of Hillsborough staff, Board of Commissioners and Historic District Commission, as well as the N.C. State Historic Preservation Office, Allied DevCorp used historic preservation tax credits to help fund its restoration of the structure.

Preservation North Carolina promotes and protects the buildings and landscapes of the state’s diverse heritage. The Carraway Awards are presented each year to people and organizations demonstrating genuine commitment through extraordinary leadership, research, philanthropy, promotion or personal participation in historic preservation.

The Historic District Commission also presented Allied DevCorp with its 2021 Preservation Award for the project. See the news release for more information.
