Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022
Participants tour the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The community course includes five Thursday evening sessions and one Saturday morning tour.

Interested in learning more about how the Town of Hillsborough operates or what it’s like to volunteer for an appointed board?

Sign up for our interactive, informational program with town staff and leaders — Government 101: A crash course in how government works.

“It is so exciting to have this program up and running again!” Mayor Jenn Weaver said. “Whether you count your time in Hillsborough as a matter of months or of multiple generations, understanding how our town government works and what our strengths and limitations are gives you the tools to plug in and be an active participant. This makes our whole community stronger.”

Government 101 will be offered 6:30-8 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 22-Oct. 27, with one exception. An infrastructure tour will be offered 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 22. No Thursday session will take place that week. To graduate, you must attend five of the six sessions.

Each session will give you an opportunity to talk with town employees and ask questions in a small group setting.

Topics covered will include our local government structure, planning, public space and sustainability, police and fire protection services, budget and financial services, and serving on appointed boards.

In addition, a Saturday tour will include a visit to our stormwater wetlands, public works facility, reservoir, and water and wastewater treatment plants.

People who live within the town limits or the town’s planning jurisdiction or are water and sewer customers are encouraged to apply.
