Hillsborough’s mayor has issued a proclamation in honor of Black History Month 2023.

“Black History Month provides an opportunity to lift up, celebrate and learn more about the many contributions African Americans provide to our knowledge, culture and history, both at home and across the nation,” Mayor Jenn Weaver said.

Each year, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History determines the theme for Black History Month, which is then endorsed by the American president. More information about the theme and the association’s history can be found on the association’s website.

“With this year's theme — Black Resistance — I encourage all Hillsborough residents to reflect on how African American struggle over time for freedom and equity is an integral part of the long arc of the American freedom struggle, relevant to our collective past, present and future,” Weaver said.
