Hillsborough to Observe Memorial Day on May 29
Town offices will be closed and waste collection adjusted
Town of Hillsborough offices will be closed and garbage collection will be rescheduled Monday, May 29, due to the Memorial Day holiday.
Routes normally served on Monday will instead be served on Tuesday, May 30. For more information, see the curbside collections calendar. Orange County waste and recycling centers and the construction and demolition landfill also will be closed in observance of the holiday. See the county’s holiday schedule for solid waste management for more information.
Rollout recycling and garbage carts may be placed by the street as early as 4 p.m. the day before collection. They should be removed from streetside by 6 a.m. the day after collection.
Memorial Day, which is observed annually on the last Monday of May, is a day of reflection and solemn observance to honor those in the armed forces who have lost their lives in service to their country. In a proclamation approved earlier this month by the Hillsborough Board of Commissioners, Mayor Jenn Weaver calls on community members to recognize and support the loved ones of the fallen and to reflect on their role in creating a more just, peaceful nation and world.
A Memorial Day ceremony will be held from 10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. May 29 at the Orange County Veterans Memorial at 2501 Homestead Drive in Chapel Hill.
