N.C. 86 Bridge Over Interstate 85 Reopened

Repair work on the bridge has been completed

The N.C. 86 bridge over Interstate 85 reopened before noon on Monday, July 24.

The N.C. 86 bridge over Interstate 85 has reopened, and the North Carolina Department of Transportation has confirmed that repair work on the bridge has been completed.

The repair work included straightening a girder, or beam, and replacing the cover plate. Both were damaged on May 31 when a tractor-trailer carrying construction equipment struck the bridge.

In addition to the damage on May 31, the bridge also sustained damage in September when a tractor-trailer crashed into it and burned. The bridge was closed for several days last fall while repairs were made and the bridge was inspected.
