Police Arrest Woman for Murder and Kidnapping

A toddler was located safe and turned over to family

Hillsborough police have charged a woman in connection with the death of her mother and the kidnapping of a sibling from their apartment in Hillsborough.

Jaydah Westmoreland, 19, of Hillsborough has been charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping. She is being held without bond in the Orange County Jail and will have a first appearance in court at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 15.

Hillsborough police responded at about 7:45 p.m. yesterday, to a welfare check for a woman at her residence in the Bellevue Mill Apartments on South Nash Street. When officers arrived, they discovered Delila Nicole Westmoreland, 40, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. During the investigation, investigators learned the deceased’s 2-year-old child was missing. Investigators also learned bullets entered a neighboring apartment, but no one was in the apartment at the time.

Jaydah Westmoreland was located at a residence in Durham and taken into custody without incident with assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Durham County Sheriff’s Office. The toddler also was located safe and turned over to family.
