A suspect was taken into custody Jan. 11 in relation to an assault of a Hillsborough police officer that occurred Jan. 10 during a larceny investigation at a convenience store.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. Jan. 11, Frederick Jermaine Pullen Jr., 49, of Morrisville was taken into custody.

Pullen was arrested at his residence without incident. He has been charged with the following:

  • Felony assault on a law enforcement officer.
  • Felony resisting a public officer resulting in serious injury.
  • Possession of a firearm by a felon.
  • Two misdemeanor counts of injury to personal property.
  • Misdemeanor larceny.
  • Misdemeanor motor vehicle violation.
  • Misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance.
  • Misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

In addition to these charges, Pullen had six active warrants for arrest and two orders for arrest from unrelated incidents in Durham. He is being held in the Orange County Detention Center without bond.

The Hillsborough Police Department expresses appreciation to North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement, Durham County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation for their assistance in the identification and apprehension of Pullen.

On Jan. 10, officers were called to Sheetz at 1990 N.C. 86 S. in Hillsborough on a report of a larceny. While investigating the larceny, they were alerted of a second larceny occurring within the building and approached the suspect.

The subject physically assaulted the responding officer inside the store before fleeing to his vehicle, which was backed into a parking space. The suspect entered the driver’s seat of the vehicle and subsequently assaulted the officer as the officer attempted to remove the suspect from the vehicle. The suspect then put the vehicle into drive and dragged the officer causing minor physical injuries.
