Longtime Hillsborough Officer Retires

Lt. Davis Trimmer
Lt. Davis Trimmer, who joined the town in May 2006, retired Dec. 31.

Lt. Davis Trimmer started the new year with a new role: Retirement.

Trimmer retired Dec. 31 after 17 years of service with the Hillsborough Police Department.

“Lt. Trimmer’s retirement is well deserved,” Police Chief Duane Hampton said. “Both the Police Department and the town will definitely miss his presence. Throughout his career here he has been involved in every aspect of managing our operations at one point or another. He has a wealth of knowledge, and we will have to work hard to fill his boots.”

Trimmer began working in Hillsborough as a lieutenant in May 2006. Starting with the Criminal Investigations Division, he rotated through supervising the administration and patrol divisions before finishing his tenure as a patrol lieutenant. He served as acting police chief from March to November 2010.

Trimmer enjoyed being an instructor in law enforcement, a skill he maintained for over 25 years, including his entire time in Hillsborough. He administered the firearms training for the town for over 15 years.

“One of the best parts was that I got to help the officers become better at their job,” Trimmer said. “I was able to impart my knowledge and ideas to those other officers, and I was able to help positively shape the culture of the department.”

Before joining the town, Trimmer began his law enforcement career as a patrol officer with Duke University Police Department in 1993. He then joined the investigations division there and was promoted to lieutenant over investigations.

Trimmer enjoyed his time with the Hillsborough Police Department.

“Hillsborough is a great town to work in,” he said. The town has a very capable department with great people, making it one of the best small police departments in North Carolina.”

In addition to Trimmer’s retirement in 2023, Sgt. Tim Corbett also retired in October. He wished to do so quietly.
