Join Us for Creek Week Activities

Several Creek Week activities are offered in Hillsborough and Orange County March 16-23.

Get to know Hillsborough town staff, local volunteers and other residents while participating in the following events:

  • Creek Week Scavenger Hunt, Open House: 2-4 p.m. March 16 in Gold Park, 415 Dimmocks Mill Road — Kids and adults are invited to join a stormwater-themed scavenger hunt in Gold Park. Those who complete the hunt earn a chance to win a rain barrel. Attendees also will have an opportunity to drive the stormwater camera, check out the Public Works Division’s mini excavator and engage with Hillsborough Tree Board members and town stormwater staff. Have fun, make memories and take photos!
  • Tree Board Invasive Species Removal Workday: 2-4 p.m. March 20 on Riverwalk, meeting at the Riverwalk bridge near the Eno River Parking Deck — The Hillsborough Tree Board will lead a volunteer workday to remove invasive plants along the Riverwalk greenway in downtown Hillsborough. Bring gloves and a water bottle and gardening tools such as loppers, hand pruners or a saw.
  • Dorothy N. Johnson Rain Garden Workday: 4-6 p.m. March 21 at the Dorothy N. Johnson Community Center, 501 Rainey Ave. — Prepare a rain garden planting bed. This event will be led by Outdoor Science Labs.   
  • Riverwalk Bioswale Workday: 1-4 p.m. March 23 near Eno River Brewing, 329 Eno Mountain Road — Help convert a ditch to a garden. Volunteers will join the Hillsborough Stormwater and Environmental Services Division in spreading bioretention media and mulch and planting native plants in a new bioswale along the Riverwalk. Parking is available in the Eno River Brewing parking lot. Overflow parking is available at Gold Park.

Creek Week is celebrated regionally March 16-23 to engage the public on the important of clean and healthy waterways. Visit the Orange County Creek Week webpage for a full list of resources and events planned in and close to Hillsborough.
